Short Term Dwelling Survey Closing Soon

Interested parties have until August 22 to provide input on the usage of short-term dwelling rentals in Chatham-Kent. The Municipality is looking to gain an understanding of both short-term dwelling rental issues as well as opportunities across the municipality.

Nearly 100 people have responded to the survey that asks questions about whether they own or plan to purchase a short-term rental property, their impressions of short-term rentals, and whether more municipal regulation is needed.

Short-term dwelling rentals are often marketed for rent through online platforms, cottage rental agencies, and buy and sell forums. Hosts may rent entire dwellings, apartments, secondary dwellings, seasonal dwellings, or bedrooms in a home on a short-term basis. For this review, a short-term rental does not include commercial accommodations such as hotel or motel units.

The results of the survey will be provided to Council in September.
