The Chatham-Kent Shelter Solutions (CKSS) Program helps people who are experiencing homelessness obtain and retain housing and supports people who are at risk of losing their housing so they can stay housed.
CKSS can assist qualifying individuals or households with:
- Rental deposits to secure housing;
- Payments towards rental, mortgage, or tax arrears to maintain or retain housing;
- Payments towards utility arrears and/or reconnection fees to maintain service connections; and/or
- Other essential costs, when appropriate, that help people secure or maintain housing.
To be eligible for CKSS, applicants must:
- Show that affordability problems are temporary, and can be addressed through one-time assistance;
- Show that they can financially afford the housing for which they are seeking assistance;
- Meet specific financial need requirements (assessed through a financial needs test that reviews assets, income, and expenses); and
- Live in Chatham-Kent.
