A Moving Permit is required for moving oversized objects, such as vehicles, loads, buildings, objects or structures on our municipal roadways.
Application & Fees
To apply for a permit, submit a completed application form accompanied by a Certificate of Insurance listing the Municipality of Chatham-Kent as additional insured.
Class I Vehicles and loads not greater than 3.75 metres (12.3 feet) in loaded width or not greater than 4.15 metres (13.5 feet) in loaded height, excluding residential buildings:
- Annual Permit Fee - $90.67
- Single Trip Permit Fee - $60.77
- Changes after issuance - $30.00
Class II Vehicles and loads greater than 3.75 metres (12.3 feet) in loaded width to a maximum of 10.0 metres (33 feet) and/or greater than 4.15 metres (13.5 feet) in loaded height to a maximum of 8.5 metres (28 feet):
- Single Trip Permit Fee - $164.24
- Residential Building Single Trip Fee - $271.99
In the case of a fleet of vehicles, the cost for the permit will be the initial annual permit fee plus a $30.00 fee for each additional vehicle permit issued under the applicant's name.
Reduced Load Restrictions
Under Section 122 of the Highway Traffic Act, reduced load restrictions are placed in the Municipality annually on March 1 and continue until April 30. If the spring thaw occurs early, restrictions may be placed before March 1. If dry conditions exist, restrictions may be lifted earlier than April 30.
