Affordable Homeownership

​​​​​​​Chatham-Kent Housing Services manages the Affordable Homeownership Program. This program helps eligible residents buy a home by offering 10% of the home's purchase price, up to $25,000.  The funding is a 20-year, interest-free loan that is registered on the title of the home.  

To qualify, the home must: 

You may qualify if you:

  • Are a legal resident of Canada 
  • Are at least 18 years of age 
  • Are a current resident of Chatham-Kent 
  • Have rented consecutively in Chatham-Kent for the last 12 months 
  • Do not own, or partially own, another home or property 
  • Do not owe money to a Social Housing landlord 
  • Have a total gross household income of $98,600 or less 
  • Can get a mortgage at a recognized financial institution 
  • Plan to live in the home as your main residence. You cannot transfer or lease it to someone else.  

Note: Program details may change based on the rules and requirements of Chatham-Kent Housing Services and/or the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
