The Municipality of Chatham-Kent's Housing Services Renovations Program helps low to moderate-income families repair their homes to improve energy efficiency and/or accessibility.
You may qualify if:
- Your total annual gross household income is $98,600.00 or less;
- You own a home within the Municipality of Chatham-Kent that is your main residence with a market value of $403,000.00 or less;
- You have enough equity in your home to cover the loan amount (equity = market value minus mortgage amount); and
- You have not received Renovations Program or Affordable Homeownership funding at your current property before.
Participants may receive:
- Up to $50,000 as a forgivable loan
- Up to $5,000 as a grant for accessibility repairs
Examples of eligible repairs:
Repairs for energy efficiency and/or accessibility may include (but are not limited to):
- Chair and bath lifts
- Doors and windows
- Electrical systems
- Foundations, roofs, walls, floors and ceilings
- Handrails
- Heating systems
- Height adjustments to countertops
- Plumbing
- Ramp
- Roof replacement
- Toilet replacement with low-flush to a dual-flush toilet
Working With Contractors
- Contractors must be arm's-length (not related to you and not a conflict of interest in any way)
- Contractors must be licensed, have WSIB coverage and insurance
- Contractors cannot receive deposits before work starts
- Contractors will receive payment within 30 days after the work is completed and approved
Apply for the Renovations Program
Please include all of the required information as well as an estimated cost of repairs/renovations from at least 2 different licensed contractors for each project.

Please submit your completed application, signed and dated, along with all required supporting documentation, to Chatham-Kent Housing Services by email, by mail, or in person.
