Railway Crossings

There are approximately 146 railway crossings throughout the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. Railway crossings are the responsibility of the company that operates the rails. If you have concerns about the safety of a crossing, call 519-360-1998 or email ckpw@chatham-kent.ca. A road supervisor will review the crossing and determine which rail company is responsible.

Notice of Closure

The Municipality intends to pass a bylaw to permanently close a portion of the road allowance where Zone Road 10 crosses the Canadian National Railway northeast of the Community of Bothwell in the geographic township of Zone under a request the Municipality received from Transport Canada. The existing railway grade crossing at this location has been closed since 2019 therefore motorists and local residents will not notice any change to the level of service that Zone Road 10 currently provides. Zone Road 10 will remain open on both the north and south sides of the Canadian National Railway, however, the existing railway grade crossing will be permanently closed. Members of the public may ask to be heard at the November 18, 2024 Council Meeting.
