Become A Lifeguard

Becoming a lifeguard or a swim instructor is a great student job! It looks amazing on a resume and can travel with you anywhere in Canada. Learn what you need to start your lifeguarding or swim instructor career today! 

Lifeguard Courses

To become a lifeguard, you are required to pass specific Canadian Red Cross courses:

  • Bronze Medallion: Age 13+ or Bronze Star 
  • Bronze Cross: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid 
  • National Lifeguard: Age 15+, Bronze Cross, and Standard First Aid

Swim Instructor Courses

To become a swim instructor, you are required to pass specific Canadian Red Cross courses: 

  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor: Age 15+, ability to perform Red Cross Swim Kids 10 strokes and skills and Red Cross Emergency/Standard First Aid 
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor: Age 16+ and Bronze Cross
