Burk Drainage Works

The Municipality is proceeding with the preparation of a final report that entails relocating the Lakeshore Drain and constructing a new dyke along the north side of Erie Shore Drive to prevent flows from the lake overtopping the dyke system.

This page contains information for the public, including impacted property owners, about the current status of work on the Burk Drainage Scheme and the Drainage Act processes that are underway.

In May 2026, some property owners received Drainage Act notices under Section 84 of the Act (the Drainage Act refers to these as “notices of abandonment"). These notices are referring to the Drainage Act process to formally recognize and confirm that certain groynes and seawalls built in the early and mid-1900s, and which an independent drainage engineer has determined are no longer functioning as intended, will not be maintained or replaced in the future. More information about this specific process can be found below.

To better understand how this process has come about, some important background information is also set out below. Residents are encouraged to read the background information to best understand what the recent notices relate to and what the next steps are for the Burk Drainage Scheme and Drainage Act process.
