The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is separated into
8 different wards for the municipal election. You are required to vote in the ward you reside in. However, you may run in any ward.

Election Signs - By-law 73-2009
Election Sign Campaign Period
This refers to the period commencing 60 days before voting day and ending on the 5th day after voting day for a Municipal Election.
When can campaign signs be displayed?
- Signs can be placed on Municipal/Public property as of August 27, 2026
- Signs must be removed by October 31, 2026
Where can campaign signs be located?
Between August 27 and October 31, 2026, Campaign signs may be located:
- On private property with owner consent.
- On an inner boulevard with at least 4 metres clearance to the edge of the roadway or private driveway, with owner consent.
- On a sidewalk where a minimum 1.8 metre pedestrian corridor remains clear.
- Where a minimum 4 metre setback from the roadway or driveway can be maintained.
Where are campaign signs prohibited?
Campaign signs CANNOT:
- Be placed on Municipal/Public property before August 27, 2026
- Create an obstruction to vehicle traffic, pedestrian safety, or public safety.
- Include the Municipality of Chatham-Kent logo
Campaign signs are prohibited:
- In parks
- On or over roadways
- On traffic islands
- Within visibility triangles
- On Municipally owned lands
- On utility infrastructure and traffic control devices
- Near MTO highway intersections within 46 metres (150 ft.)
- At any polling locations on any voting day, including advance voting days
Campaign signs may not be attached to:
- Utility poles
- Hydro poles
- Light poles
- Traffic control devices
- Trees
- Bus shelters
- Planters
- Benches
- Waste receptacles
- Newspaper boxes
- Mailboxes
- Guide rails
- Official signs
- Other Municipal infrastructure
What happens if a campaign sign violates the by-law?
The Municipality may remove the sign immediately if it:
- Violates the by-law
- Creates a traffic or pedestrian safety concern
- Interferes with municipal infrastructure
Candidates may attend the storage location at an agreed upon time with staff to retrieve the sign(s). Removed signs are stored for a minimum of 14 days.
What are visibility triangles?
Visibility triangles are areas near street intersections, driveways and streets, alleys and streets, that must remain free from obstructions to maintain safe sightlines for drivers and pedestrians. Campaign signs are prohibited within these areas.
