Municipality & Coke Canada Bottling to Install Public Art

The Mayor of Chatham-Kent will be working with Coca-Cola Canada Bottling Limited (Coke Canada Bottling) to develop a unique public art installation which will be located outside of the Coke Canada Bottling Make Ready Centre on Park Avenue East in Chatham. The project will be designed by local Coke Canada Bottling employees with input from local artists.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Coke Canada Bottling to create this unique piece of art," said the Mayor Darrin Canniff. "Public art is an important part of our community and contributes to our quality of life. We are grateful to Coke Canada Bottling for their commitment to our local community and for working with us to create this project."

"We are excited to work with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent on this installation," said Bill Pickering, Senior Manager, Equipment Operations of Coke Canada Bottling, Chatham. "As Chatham’s local bottler, we take our role in the Chatham-Kent community seriously and are committed to making a difference in the local communities where we operate. This installation is designed to deliver optimism to those who live, work, and visit Chatham-Kent, and showcases our commitment to the community for the long term.”

The Coke Canada Bottling facility services Chatham, and Central Ontario, with new and refurbished cold drink equipment, such as vending machines, glass door coolers, and fountain equipment. As proud members of the Chatham community since 1991, the facility is home to 26 employees and contributes almost a quarter of a million dollars to the local economy through its local suppliers and partners.

The funds provided by Mayor Darrin Canniff to finance the project are from the Hydro One Community Benefit program, which are designated by Hydro One for recreational and art projects.

The project is expected to be completed in the coming months, and the Mayor and Coke Canada Bottling hope that this project will inspire other companies and organizations to find creative ways to connect with their community.

"We are excited to see the final product and the positive impact this will have on our community," added Mayor Darrin Canniff. "This project is a great example of how the municipality can work with local businesses to create something truly special."
