Franco-Ontarian Flag Raising

A flag-raising event occurred at the Civic Centre yesterday to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day (September 25th).

Franco-Ontarian Day was declared in 2010 across the province in recognition of the Franco-Ontarian flag, which was first flown on September 25th, 1975, marking the Francophone community's social, economic, cultural, and political contributions to our province.

The flag-raising event included the paroles (hymns) “Notre Place” and “Mon Beau Drapeau” sung by the attendees who dressed in the flag colours of green and white.

Mayor Darrin Canniff said, “I’ve been part of this flag-raising event for several years and I’m thrilled to see a great crowd celebrating Canada’s second language.”

We look forward to continuing this flag-raising event next year.
