Dufferin Avenue & Murray Street Bridge Project Updates

Dufferin Avenue Reconstruction Project

The intersection of McNaughton Avenue and Dufferin Avenue will be closed from Wednesday, November 8th at 7:00 am to Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 pm to allow for the placement of surface asphalt in the intersection. This closure may be extended up to Saturday, November 11th at 7:00 pm due to potential weather-related delays.

The posted detour for Highway 40 traffic will include the use of Base Line, Old Glass Road, Mason Street and Arnold Street. Two lanes of traffic on Dufferin Avenue will remain open from Walnut Drive to the closure at the McNaughton Avenue intersection. Chatham-Kent is committed to working with Birnam Excavating to maintain a safe and orderly worksite. All efforts will be made to reduce the impact on the surrounding areas and businesses. Access to all properties and businesses on Dufferin Avenue will be maintained at all times.

Road work on Dufferin Avenue from McNaughton Avenue to Walnut Drive will be completed in 2023, with restoration to be completed in Spring 2024.

Murray Street Bridge Rehabilitation

As the rehabilitation of the Murray Street Bridge nears completion, the bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm daily from Tuesday, November 14th to Friday, November 17th to complete final testing and commissioning of the bridge's new sensors.

During this time, the bridge will also not be operable for larger boats. Smaller boats that do not require the bridge to be opened will be accommodated during this time.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent appreciates the patience and cooperation of the residents of the Community of Wallaceburg during these two projects. For updates on these and all other projects in Chatham-Kent, please visit www.chatham-kent.ca/constructionprojects.
