To increase timely, accurate and reliable communications to residents during times of emergency, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has launched CKAlert, Chatham-Kent’s new Emergency Notification Service.
CKAlert is designed to provide immediate notification to Chatham-Kent residents in the event of emergencies such as flooding, boil water advisories, emergency bridge closures, and more. Unlike the Federal Alert Ready system, Chatham-Kent residents will not receive notifications unless they sign up for the service.
Residents can sign up to receive emergency notifications at www.CKAlert.ca.
CKAlert can be customized to ensure notifications are received in a way that works best for residents of all ages. Residents can receive alerts through text messages or email, and those without access to a cell phone or email address can receive prerecorded messages to a landline phone. The service is free and is being directly operated by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
“During times of emergency, every second counts. We’re always looking for the fastest, most accessible way to reach residents with accurate information,” said Eric Labadie, Manager of Corporate Communications. “CKAlert provides a way for residents to receive updates immediately when an emergency takes place, directly to the device of their choosing, in order to make informed decisions to stay safe.”
This new service comes at no cost to taxpayers for the next five years, as CK Fire & Rescue secured funding from the Provincial government to provide this service to Chatham-Kent residents.
