The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is proud to announce that it has been honoured with the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
This award recognizes the Municipality's Budget & Performance Services division and their commitment to upholding the highest standards of governmental budgeting. By adhering to nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, Chatham-Kent has achieved a significant accomplishment in budgetary excellence. These guidelines are designed to assess how well a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device has been served. Chatham-Kent’s budget documents were awarded a "proficient" rating across all four key categories.
In addition to receiving this award, special recognition was given with regards to strategic goals and strategies. Special recognition is given when all reviewers give the highest possible score in particular categories.
“Our team put forward tremendous effort to enhance our first ever multi-year budget book document, and I am proud to see that recognized through GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award,” said Steve Brown, Director of Budget & Performance Services. “We sit amongst a strong group of governments who have also achieved this goal and are committed to achieving effective open and transparent government for our taxpayers.”
The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. Approximately 1,700 governments, including states, cities, counties, special districts, school districts, and more have been recognized for transparency in budgeting.
