The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is dedicated to enhancing service delivery while promoting sustainability. In line with this commitment, changes to Leaf and Yard waste collection services are under consideration and public input on these proposed initiatives is invited during the month of April 2024. Residents can participate in the survey at www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/changes-leaf-yard-waste-collection.
One proposed change involves transitioning from a clear bag to a paper bag mandate for Brush and Leaf collection in communities currently subject to the mandate. This shift aims to reduce environmental impact by minimizing plastic waste and promoting sustainability through the use of biodegradable materials. Paper bags offer an eco-friendly option that is easily recyclable and compostable, providing a practical solution for homeowners while contributing to a healthier environment.
Additionally, the Municipality is considering the closure of the Tilbury Leaf & Yard Depot, located at 4 Tower Street, Tilbury. Operational challenges associated with this location have prompted this recommendation. Residents of Tilbury already benefit from weekly brush, grass, and leaf pick-up services at the curb during the spring, summer, and fall months. While this depot has served residents of the surrounding areas, mounting operational pressures and costs have prompted the need for consideration.
Residents are encouraged to participate in a brief three-question survey to provide valuable insights that will help enhance the collection program and better serve the community.
