Join the Thames Art Gallery for Winter ARTcrawl

The Thames Art Gallery is pleased to announce the Winter ARTcrawl, January 31, 2025, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. This free event spans four venues, six art exhibitions, and features live music and tasty treats. Join the crawl for a fun evening of exploring, socializing and celebration.

At 6:00 pm, the Winter ARTcrawl begins at ARTspace with an opening reception featuring Chatham-Kent artist Lorie Thibault’s exhibition I Wander to Wonder. This exhibition showcases Thibault’s distinctive style of black and white ink drawings of buildings and places. Also on display is Collected Works: A Sense of Place Hortense Gordon, which presents four paintings from the Thames Art Gallery’s Permanent Collection of celebrated Canadian artist Hortense Gordon. Additionally, see the artwork of 43 ARTspace exhibiting artists while mingling and enjoying winter-themed hors d’oeuvres.

At 7:00 pm, the crawl will proceed to Art and Heirloom Shoppe, which features the artwork of 60 Southwestern Ontario artists. This stop will also feature a draw for a $50 gift certificate for Art and Heirloom Shoppe.

At 7:30 pm, the crawl will continue down King Street West to Crow City Coffee, where Chatham-Kent artist Laurie Langford’s exhibition of collage artworks Off the Wall is on display.

At 8:00 pm, the Thames Art Gallery is celebrating the opening reception of three exhibitions. Artists in attendance, live music performed by BREN, winter-themed hors d’oeuvres, and a bar with a specialty cocktail.

Part One, an exhibition from Ariel Williams, an artist from Walpole Island First Nation; Bkejwanong Territory, breaks away from traditional conceptions of Indigenous art with bold, monochromatic explorations in paint of the American West landscape. A fusion of memory and possibility, this exhibition aims to challenge and reframe narratives around Indigenous existence.

Malik McKoy’s exhibition Speed Run uses augmented virtual reality to transport viewers light-years away into outer space. Patrons will discover a lifeform latched onto a spacecraft. Engage with this character, who is trying not to be sucked into a blackhole.

Breakthrough PLUS presented by FUSION: The Ontario Clay and Glass Association is dedicated to exploring memory and the powerful connection between art and personal recollections. Showcasing three dimensional artworks by artists across career stages, it delves into the theme of memory.
