Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee Awards Calls for Nominations 2025

The Accessibility Advisory Committee, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Chatham-Kent Council are calling for nominations for this year’s annual Accessibility Advisory Committee Awards.

To fill out a nomination form, please go to https://www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/accessibility-awards and when completed, please hit “SUBMIT”. If you require a paper copy of the Nomination Form to fill out, please reach out to your local Library or Service Centre and they will provide a paper copy to you. Forms can also be submitted to any current member of the AAC or by emailing ckinfo@chatham-kent.ca or ck311@chatham-kent.ca.

Members of the community are invited to nominate a business or an individual they feel should be recognized in one of the following three categories:

Dr. Veronica Vaughn Accessible Business Award
Is presented to a business that stands out as providing an accessible facility and/or accessible customer service.

Sheila Lindsey Powers Accessibility Advocate Award
Is presented to an individual in this community who stands out as an advocate for the inclusion of people of all abilities.

Sid Ebare Perseverance Award
Is presented to an individual who stands out as a person who perseveres beyond their limitations to participate in community life.

Deadline for receipt of nomination forms is Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Sara Ebare, Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee said “The AAC likes to honour people and businesses in the community that contribute to the independence of persons with disabilities.”

“Accessibility is a keystone of a thriving community, and Chatham-Kent is making great strides to ensure that we’re as accessible as possible to everyone,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff. “I want to thank all of the nominees and nominators in advance for the work they are doing to make Chatham-Kent a better place to live for everyone.”

Councillor Alysson Storey of the Accessibility Advisory Committee said “Accessibility to local services is so important when it comes to ensuring our community is inclusive and welcoming to everyone. Whether it’s a retail store, non-profit organization, or government building, we want all of our citizens to be able to access what they need. These awards are a great way of honouring and recognizing those who are doing just that.”

The 2025 Accessibility Awards will be presented during the June 9th Council Meeting.
