The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is advising the public of temporary access changes to the McGeorge Building at the Chatham Water Treatment Plant (CH WTP) while essential rehabilitation work is completed.
The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will be conducting maintenance and construction work at 325 Grand Avenue East. As part of this work, the driveway and access road to the PUC Office (McGeorge Building) from Grand Avenue East will be temporarily closed. The closure is required to safely complete work on a buried water valve chamber located beneath the roadway.
The project will involve excavation and the use of crane-hoisting equipment. Safety fencing will be installed around the excavation area to protect workers and the public.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to take place from Monday, January 26 to Friday, February 6.
During the construction period:
- Access to the Water Treatment Plant will continue from Grand Avenue East; however, the roadway will be closed with barricades just north of the portable washrooms.
- Access to the PUC Office (McGeorge Building) will be rerouted through 84 Windfield Crescent.
- Access to the homeless encampment will continue from Grand Avenue East.
- The pedestrian walkway and trail in the area will remain open throughout the construction.
Final restoration work, including topsoil replacement, seeding, and asphalt repairs will be completed in Spring 2026.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as this important infrastructure maintenance is completed.
This notification will be sent out again as it gets closer to the date.
