Have you ever discovered a box of objects or photographs and become lost in reverie, memory, or imagination?
On behalf of exhibiting artist Amy Friend, the Thames Art Gallery would like to offer members of our community an opportunity to collaborate with the artist in her upcoming exhibition “Assorted Boxes of Ordinary Life.” This exhibition draws inspiration from a small box of ordinary objects and photographs that came into the artist’s possession. Intrigued by the fact that such seemingly mundane and disparate objects only increased in poignancy by being collected in the same box, stories began to spark in her imagination. A button. A lock. A water-stained notebook.
You can be part of this exciting project by donating one object of your choice. The object you select should inspire your curiosity but not be so valuable as to require it to be returned to you as it will continue to be part of future exhibitions. Please select an object and place it in a zip lock bag. Include one line of text (hand-written or printed) for each. All accepted submissions will be on display in the Project Room of the Thames Art Gallery as part of Friend’s exhibition running from September 9 through November 5.
Amy Friend is an internationally celebrated artist showing across Canada and countries such as Spain, the UK and South Korea. Amy is an Associate Professor of Studio Art at Brock University.
Please bring your submissions to the Thames Art Gallery at 75 William St. N. Chatham on August 24-27 during gallery hours from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.
