Chatham-Kent has been identified as the destination for new investment as Canadian Energies advances plans for a major clean-energy manufacturing opportunity in the community.
The proposed investment is being featured as part of the Canadian Investment Summit taking place in Toronto September 14-15. Hosted by the Prime Minister of Canada in partnership with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, the Canada Investment Summit is a first-of-its-kind, two-day event that brings together leading global investors, Canadian CEOs, and public sector representatives to accelerate new investment into Canada and spotlight communities and projects across the country that are well positioned to attract new business, investment, and employment.
Chatham-Kent has a long-standing manufacturing base and a strong history of attracting and supporting industry. The mayor and municipal senior leaders regularly and actively pursue investment opportunities that build on these strengths, expand the local economy, and create employment in our region. The identification of Chatham-Kent at a national investment forum provides another opportunity to showcase the community to prospective investors and highlight its capacity to support new industrial development.

Chatham-Kent’s presence in the national investment discussion reinforces the importance of maintaining a strong and diversified local economy and continuing to position the community for future industrial investment.
The Municipality recognizes that projects of this scale involve significant consideration by multiple levels of government. If the project proceeds, support and approvals from the appropriate provincial and federal governments will be required. Any municipal regulatory decisions or approvals required for the project would follow the appropriate municipal process, including consideration by Chatham-Kent Council, before any municipal commitments, if any, are made.
