Where did you grow up?
What was your first job?
Like many others who grew up in CK, my first job was in the corn field, except instead of de-tasseling I was de-roguing.
What is your favourite Chatham-Kent pastime?
Growing up, my family would go camping every year at Rondeau. My husband's family has a cottage there also, so in recent years I have been able to spend even more time enjoying the park. I love that you can spend time near the water swimming, kayaking, or fishing. Then, you can turn around and go hiking, biking or birding. We are lucky to be able to experience two very unique environments all in one place!
What is your favourite season?
Autumn. It is beautiful to watch the leaves change to vibrant orange, deep reds, or crisp golds. It is also a time of thanksgiving for the year’s harvest.
Name an experience that has positively motivated you.
In the spring I had the opportunity to create a video for work about a young boy from Blenheim who is blind. It was inspiring to hear from his mom that even with his disability he lives a life full of adventure and fun. Knowing that I can make a difference in theirs and other families lives simply by sharing their story, motivates me.
What did you do after high school?
I enrolled at the University of Guelph, majoring in International Development with a minor in Geography. After completing my Bachelor of Arts, I spent one year attending Fanshawe College where I received a Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communications and Public Relations.
What are you doing now?
I was very lucky to find employment in my field in Chatham immediately after graduating at United Way of Chatham-Kent. Beginning in May 2012 on contract as a Campaign Associate helping with the Annual Fundraising Campaign, I have since transitioned to a full-time permanent position as the Manager, Marketing and Communications.
Why live in Chatham-Kent?
My family lives here. My husband's family lives here. It is a beautiful community, from the farm fields to the waterways and the historic buildings. It was always our goal to come baCK to Chatham-Kent to begin our careers, buy a home and eventually start a family.
