Where did you grow up?
Chatham-Kent, born and raised!
What was your first job?
Like most kids in Chatham-Kent, my first job was corn detasselling. After three summers working for Mr. Allin's crew, I got a job at McDonald's and worked there through High School and College.
What is your favourite Chatham-Kent pastime?
I love going for walks especially at Mud Creek or C.M. Wilson Conservation Area. I also enjoy taking my dog to the off leash dog park (John Waddell Dog Park). I like to take advantage of the new health complex at St. Clair College for a quick game of pick-up basketball and play co-ed slo-pitch in the summer.
What is your favourite season?
The fall is absolutely my favourite season. I love the colours and Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching which means family gatherings, turkey dinners and egg nog!
Name an experience that has positively motivated you.
After doing extensive volunteer work in Calgary and going on a dental mission trip to Ethiopia, I recognize the need right here at home and am motivated to help those in need in our community. This is why I've started the "Give Where You Live" initiative and will be hosting my first, of many, FREE dental hygiene days next month. My first "Give Where You Live" clinic will dedicated to the women and children at the Chatham Kent Women's Centre.
What did you do after high school?
I completed the Dental Hygiene program at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario. I earned the golden scalar award which is awarded to the dental hygiene graduate that has demonstrated exceptional clinical skills during the course of the program. The entire teaching and clinical staff choose one graduate to receive the award and I was honoured to have been chosen for the class of 2006.
What are you doing now?
I operate Bright Smiles Community Dental Hygiene in downtown Chatham. It's the first clinic of it's type in Chatham-Kent, and I'm hoping to increase access to care and make dental hygiene services more affordable for our community.
Why live in Chatham-Kent?
Both my husband and I are from Chatham. We moved out west for several years to establish our careers and experience something new, but we always knew we would come back. Our families are here, and we got tired of missing birthdays and holidays with them. It's great to be baCK!
