Buxton's Next Generation

The purpose and mission of Buxton's Next Generation is to engage youth in Buxton and preserve the community' culture.  We are committed to enriching our community, as well as promoting historic awareness of our community.

Buxton's Next Generation members actively engage in community development. In 2021 for Black History Month, Buxton Next Generation collaborated with the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society & Black Mecca Museum, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and Buxton Museum to develop the One Vision One Voice - Black History Month activity boxes. Each box is full of fun and educational activities for youth to learn about Black History near and far for the month. Monetary donations from Community Living Chatham-Kent and Chatham-Kent Children's Services helped make the idea a reality. We also have various annual events such as an Easter Egg Hunt, Breakfast with Santa and assist with the North Buxton Homecoming's planning and activities, which is our biggest community-wide event.

An event that perfectly sums up Buxton's Next Generation is the Homecoming event. We feel Homecoming represents who we are as a group.  The majority of us are direct descendants of enslaved people who came to Canada to seek their freedom. Homecoming is a celebration of that. It is a celebration of us as a people and community.

The future goals of Buxton's Next Generation is to continue to grow our committee, with members, events, and in the community. We have had such strong support, not only in the community of Buxton, but throughout CK. It is amazing! We are always looking to increase our membership. You do not have to be from Buxton to be a member of Buxton's Next Generation. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram or email to learn how you join our activities and become a member.
