Chatham

What is your favourite Chatham-Kent pastime?

I enjoy spending time in Erieau and at Rondeau Park.  I also enjoy the atmosphere at Sons of Kent – our new local brewery.

What did you do after high school?

I went to the University of Windsor where I studied Criminology and Sociology. In 2011, I travelled to Haiti to volunteer at an orphanage and medical clinic. In 2012, I founded the non-profit organization Hime For Help and ended up moving to Haiti where I took over a Children's Home.

What are you doing now?

I currently run my own business called Chatham-Kent Birth Services where I offer doula services to expecting parents in the Chatham-Kent area. I am also working at Choices Child and Adolescent Services as well as continuing to run my non-profit organization and work in Haiti.

Name an experience that has positively motivated you.

The support I have received from the Chatham-Kent community over the past 6 years (when I first began my work in Haiti) is a constant motivator for me. I first went to Haiti with $500 in my pocket knowing that I could provide a few weeks of food to a group of young kids, I didn't know how I would support them after that, but our community came through. Whether it was a young high school student hosting a car wash for Hime for Help, or a local business hosting a dinner or concert fundraiser for us. It was remarkable the support we received. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, and now here we are six years later. None of this would have been possible without the support of Chatham-Kent. I am forever grateful and forever in debt to our community for allowing me to continue my work in Haiti for giving me the opportunity to watch these children transform into such amazing young men and women!

What advice would you give to someone considering coming baCK2CK?

I would tell them to get involved as much as you can within our community.  We have some amazing organizations and events that bring people together and give you a great sense of community.

What is your #1 reason for choosing Chatham-Kent as "home"?

My number one reason for choosing Chatham Kent as "home" is because this is where my roots are; this is where my family is. I truly believe that this is a great community to raise children in and I knew this would be the perfect place to raise my son.
