What has made you happy about your move baCK?

I'm so happy that I can do what I love right here at home, plus I fit in very well at CK Performance Health, both professionally and personally. I'm passionate about what I do, and it's amazing to be part of a person's journey to a healthier, happier life.

What advice would you give to someone considering coming baCK2CK?

Getting connected and involved in your community is key. Find something you enjoy, because chances are there are plenty of friendly people in Chatham-Kent who would love to enjoy it with you!

What is your favourite Chatham-Kent pastime?

Visiting Rondeau Provincial Park. Our family used to go camping there every long weekend in the summer, and a group of us still go on Thanksgiving weekend. We've had our Thanksgiving dinner there since I was a baby!

What did you do after high school?

I went to the University of Guelph, where I studied biological sciences. I continued my studies at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto for four more years to earn my Doctor of Naturopathy. Along the way, I made sure to spend plenty of time outside and stay active by running and playing recreational sports, especially basketball.

What are you doing now?

I am a naturopathic doctor, and I work at an amazing clinic called CK Performance Health. You can also find me running, playing sports, and enjoying time in nature.

Name an experience that has positively motivated you.

In my third year of naturopathic college, two friends I knew from elementary school at Chatham Christian told me that they were planning on running a half marathon, so I decided to join them! I'd never run more than 10km before, and each time I went on a longer and longer training run, I felt motivated because it was the first time I'd ever run each distance. It was great to see my improvement, and I even noticed an increase in the endurance and energy I could bring to my Toronto rec league basketball games. It was so encouraging to see the results of my dedication to training. On race day, I was a few minutes slower than my goal time, but I counted it as a win because I placed 3rd in my age category! Even just finishing a half marathon is a great accomplishment, and it was so cool to have my childhood friends from Chatham in the race too. The lessons I learned in training can be applied to naturopathic care, such as making change gradually, learning what is realistic for you, and committing to your goals in order to see results!

What surprised you about your move baCK?

I guess how wonderfully things have been working out, especially since my family has been through some tough times recently. Even in the midst of adversity, there is so much to be thankful for! I'm impressed with the connections and networks within Chatham-Kent. For example, Dr. Sarah Ytsma contacted me about joining CK Performance Health because she heard about me from a member of my church family! This was before I was sure I was even going to come back home to Chatham.

What is your #1 reason for choosing Chatham-Kent as "home"?

Coming home to Chatham just made sense, due to a combination of reasons. Chatham-Kent can certainly use another naturopathic doctor, the clinic offering me a spot was an ideal fit, and most of my family is nearby, plus we have plenty of great connections and memories in the area.
