Search our online catalogue for resources on language learning, English as a Second Language (ESL), adult literacy and more! CKPL offers books in 19 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese. You can request books to be sent to any CKPL branch. If you need help finding what you are looking for, just Ask CKPL!
Brainfuse
The Language Lab on Brainfuse can connect you with a language tutor for help with your French and Spanish language classes. The Vocabulary Builder offers games, quizzes, flashcards, and spoken pronunciations in over 10 languages to help you learn a new language. There's a Writing Lab, live tutoring in many subject areas and more!
Gale Courses
Access interactive, instructor-led online courses for professional development and personal enrichment. In Gale Courses you'll find courses to help you learn Spanish, French, Japanese, Italian and even sign language! ESL courses are also available. Gale Courses run for six weeks, with new courses starting every month. After you pass the final exam, you'll receive a certificate of completion by email.
TumbleBooks
Read along with TumbleBook's online Language Learning books in Spanish and French. Many bilingual titles allow you to read the book in two languages.
Mango Languages
Learn languages without going online. Each Mango Take-Out: Language Learning in a Box contains a USB drive, pre-loaded with the Mango Basic course for one individual language. Nine languages are available at CKPL including Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Just plug it into your computer and start learning! Adult Language and Learning
Adult Language & Learning provides settlement services for immigrants, including workshops and information sessions to help newcomers learn about living in Chatham-Kent. Services offered include classroom training in Literacy Basic Skills (LBS) and Essential Skills, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, Immigrant Settlement Adaptation Program (ISAP) and Citizenship classes.
