Our Mission

To be an indispensable centre of culture, community and learning in Chatham-Kent.

Our Priorities

CKPL's four strategic priorities for 2026 to 2028 are intentionally ordered to reflect the story of the library and how the work comes together.

We begin with Welcoming Experience. This represents why the library exists, serving the public through inclusive, welcoming, and accessible spaces and services.

We then move to One System. This reflects how the library operaties, as a connected and integrated system where all branches work together to serve the community.

Next is Strong Workforce. This recognizes that our people make everything possible. Supporting, developing, and sustaining our workforce is essential to delivering on our priorities.

Finally, Clear Communication. This ensures that what we do is understood, aligned, shared consistently and communicated appropriately acess staff, leadership, and the public.

Together, these priorities move from purpose, to how we operate, to who delivers the work, to how it is communicated. This creates a clear and connected strategy for the future.

Welcoming Experience

An inclusive, welcoming and accesible library experience

The library provides a welcoming and inclusinve environment where the public feels supported and able to access services. Barriers are addressed, and services evolve to meet community needs, supported by strong partnerships and menaingful engagement across all branches.

One System

A connected and integrated library system

The library operates as one connected system, where all branches are recognized as part of a unified whole. Decisions are made with a system-wide perspective, ensuring that resources, services and support are aligned to the needs of each branch wile maintaining a strong overall system.

Strong Workforce

A supported, capable, and engaged workforce

Staff are supported through a positive workplace environment, meaningful feedback, and opportunities for development. Staffing and resource capacity are managed to support operations across all branches, and the library continues to foster a workplace where people want to work and remain.

Clear Communication

Clear, consistent and aligned communication

Communication across the library is clear, consistent and aligned. A shared message is communicated across staff, board, councillors, and the public, supported by consistent methods and timely, relevant information. Communication strengthens awareness of the library's role and value within the community.
