If you are thinking of starting a new business, or are looking to grow your existing business, the Chatham-Kent Small Business Centre has the tools you need thanks to the Starter Company Plus program. Business owners and entrepreneurs who live in Chatham-Kent have the opportunity to sign up now for a limited number of program spaces and join the virtual training group in July.
“Starter Company Plus is designed to help people who are looking to take their business to the next level,” said Matt Reaume, Economic Development Officer. “Our next group session is running the week of July 12-16 and will be done using online training and engagement.”
The free program helps entrepreneurs across the region refine and execute their business plan, access mentorship and business experts, as well as have the opportunity to apply for a $5000 grant. There is limited space so people are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
“Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and cannot be attending school full time. As well, businesses must be based in Chatham-Kent, cannot be a franchise, and must follow all government rules and regulations,” said Doug Robbins, Economic Development Officer. “There is also a requirement that anyone who receives the grant is able to provide a 25 percent match in cash or in-kind. However, the in-kind contribution can include things such as inventory and equipment.”
Over the past several years, the program has seen a wide variety of businesses attend the training including apiaries, laser engraving, salons, a brewery, and much more.
“I highly recommend this program to anyone who has a vison for their business and is looking for not only financial support but also personal support to help your vision come to life,” said Stephanie Laforet, Owner of The Esthetic Studio in Chatham.
