Welcome to Dresden sign, Dresden RacewayDresden is a small town of approximately 2,700 residents, located in north-central Chatham-Kent. It has a rich heritage closely tied to the Underground Railroad and is home to the famous Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

Dresden is surrounded by rich farm lands that produce strong vegetable yields for commercial use. ConAgra Foods (producer for Del Monte Canada) is perhaps the best known commercial food producer in the region, processing locally grown tomatoes for Aylmer ketchup. Several manufacturing industries are also located in Dresden: Martinrea Fabco is a tier one automotive supplier, while MPT Inc and Wood Waste Disposal produce automated equipment and mulch respectively.

Downtown Dresden features a selection of quaint shops and restaurants. In 2007 the town celebrated its 125th anniversary, and its long history and rich heritage are reflected in the architecture of its businesses and homes. The Trillium Trail Historical Walk, a 5.8km trail that meanders through the town and nearby parkland, commemorates more than 50 local historical sites. Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historical Site is also located just outside of Dresden. The former home of noted abolitionist Rev. Josiah Henson, the site is now a museum that commemorates the history of the region’s Black population.

The Dresden Agricultural Society sponsors a number of events, from tractor pulls to demolition derbies, culminating with the Dresden Exhibition held every July. The Dresden Raceway hosts a number of harness races throughout the summer, while the OLG Slots and Casino next to the raceway offers gaming entertainment all-year round. Dresden is also home to several athletic fields, a skateboard park, and an arena.
