Re: Drainage Construction in Maple Leaf Cemetery (Chatham)
The construction of a new underground drainage system in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham began during the week of November 28, 2016.The areas affected by this construction are along the Chapel Drive sections of New Maple/New St. Anthony Cemetery.
The project consists of the installation of underground drainage tile and several catch basins, with a new drainage outlet being directed to Mc Gregor Creek. This project is expected to alleviate some excess surface water issues that occur in the north end of the cemetery during late fall and early spring seasons.
At no time will any burials be disturbed during the installation of the drainage system. Care has been taken to ensure that all excavation occurs along the shoulder edge of roadways, and in service alleys where an existing 6-foot wide easement exists.
The installation of the drainage tile and catch basins is now complete. As weather and ground conditions permit in the spring, restoration work on the grounds where excavation has occurred will begin. Topsoil and seeding to restore excavated areas should be complete mid-spring.
