Transition to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
Ontario's Blue Box Program is transitioning to a new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model under the provincial Blue Box Regulation (O. Reg. 391/21). Under this model, producers are now responsible for operating and funding the collection, reuse, refurbishment, and recycling of Blue Box materials.
Since January 1, 2024, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has not been responsible for recycling services. The service is now administered by Circular Materials, the designated administrator of the common collection system, which continues to provide recycling services to eligible residential properties in Chatham-Kent.
