SWOTC Safe Openings Program
We become stronger when we work together. With many unknowns and unfamiliar circumstances, these times are far from celebratory. Yet at the same time it feels appropriate to highlight the remarkable resilience and creativity shown by so many of our industry members.
This is the case with the Safe Openings Program, an effort to hear and respond to our regional industry needs. The Ministry's decision to adjust guidelines made this program possible. Given budget limitations, immediate help couldn't be offered to all businesses at once. Hence the Safe Openings Program aims to help our small tourism businesses recover some costs for the safety of their visitors and staff.
Ninety businesses/organizations benefited from the first intake in September. In a few weeks, over $85,000 dollars were reimbursed!
Many businesses found an opportunity to enhanced practices that can be used on an ongoing basis. Visitors' perception of having safe spaces in our region is an important aspect. So is the cohesiveness amongst DMOs promoting this program, focusing on common goals. To top it all: realizing that most of the businesses also support local whenever possible.
A second intake of the Safe Openings Program will begin on Tuesday November 24 at 10:00am. Program details on eligibility, new forms and other specifics for this upcoming second intake will be available on our website in a couple of weeks.
