The secretary is constructed in two sections; the top portion of the lower section opens into a desk where if you look hard enough you will find secret compartments! The top portion, with its original glass, is perfect for displaying some of the other small treasures the Ridge House has to offer!
The secretary was a wedding present to Robert’s youngest daughter, Louisa Jane, who on October 26, 1881 married Arthur Delmege. Arthur and Louisa moved to Ridgetown around 1885 where they lived until Arthur’s death in 1939. Bequeathed to Arthur’s grandson, Arthur H Delemage, it was donated to the Ridge House when it became a museum. It has been prominently displayed there since 1975.
