Formed in 1913 at the request of the Commanding Officer Colonel HD Smith, the 24th Kent Regiment Chapter IODE was the first IODE chapter to be formed in Kent County. Its ninety-five members assisted the regiment and their families, as well as the women and children of our community.

In 2013, the IODE chapter celebrated their 100th anniversary by creating the Gathering Our Heroes website. The only site of its kind known in Canada, Gathering Our Heroes is a compilation of all the existing information about WWI and WWII veterans of Chatham-Kent onto a searchable database of more than 11 000 soldiers. It includes information from the Books of Remembrance created by the IODE after both world wars.
