More than 20 children experienced work as a municipal employee as part of the recent “Take our Kids to Work Day.”

The national program encourages employers to being Grade Nine students including friends, relatives or volunteer hosts to their workplace for one day.

The goal is to help students develop an understanding of the world of work, learn about the range of career options available, and start to develop the skills required to succeed in the working world.

In addition to job shadowing, students participated in a variety of activities including a museum and art tour at the Chatham Cultural Centre, a recreation services team challenge, activities at workforce development, a police drone presentation and tour of the fire hall and living quarters.

After a pizza lunch break, students participated in a CAP - baCK to CK Presentation & Activity, a municipal governance presentation and voting activity in council chambers and listened to a presentation by Chatham-Kent Councillor Brock McGregor.

Chatham-Kent General Manager/Chief Human Resource Officer Cathy Hoffman said the day was a success. “It’s important that we provide students with information and to do so in a way that is fun, entertaining and educational.”
