South Kent Town Hall Meeting

The first South Kent town hall meeting of 2020 will be held next Tuesday, March 3 at the Blenheim Legion from seven to nine p.m.

Councillors Trevor Thompson, Clare Latimer and Anthony Ceccacci initiated the quarterly town hall meeting concept for ward two last year with some success.

“After the 2018 election, Clare, Anthony and myself wanted a way to make sure residents had a chance to get together with us and discuss whatever was on their minds,” Thompson said. “We’ve had up to about 100 people come out and we’ve talked about everything from gravel roads to police coverage.”

Councillor Latimer said the informal process allows councillors to provide updates on ward issues and gather feedback as well. “Councillors and the public are learning at the same time,” she said. ‘It doesn’t have to be a major issue. We want to hear whatever is on their (residents) minds.”

Councillor Ceccacci said it’s a resident-driven process. “First and foremost it gives our residents a chance to set the agenda,” he said. “We are there to listen. We have a setting where there aren’t strict time limits or procedural rules so it really just becomes a conversation.”

Attendees don’t need to register for the event.

“We’ve made it about as easy as we can,” said Thompson.
