Provincial Hazmat Team on Scene at Erie St. N

CHATHAM-KENT (June 4, 2021) – Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency crews continue to monitor the situation on Erie St. N in Wheatley.  Firefighters from stations across Chatham-Kent are rotating shifts at the site of gas leak that started Wednesday afternoon. 

“The provincial hazmat team is currently on scene continuing to survey the conditions,” explains Fire Chief Chris Case.  “We are working with our local and provincial partners to try and keep disruption to a minimum but continuing to keep community safety as our highest priority.”

A state of emergency was declared yesterday morning.  Officials continue collaborate to find a solution.  We would like to thank the tremendous understanding from the residents and business affected. The public is reminded to avoid the area.
