Patio openings in Chatham-Kent

As per decisions handed down by the provincial government and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), Chatham-Kent businesses that serve food and beverages will be allowed to open outdoor seating on site, effective June 12.

In order to open in Chatham-Kent, businesses must comply with guidelines provided by the municipality of Chatham-Kent, Chatham-Kent Public Health and the ACGO regarding size, occupancy and health regulations.

In order to facilitate the June 12 opening, patrons are limited to the patios unless they require use of washroom facilities or are paying their bill. No new municipal permits will be required for existing businesses to operate patios on private property.

The guidelines for Chatham-Kent can be found here under Appendix A.

The guidelines for Chatham-Kent Public Health can be found  here .

The guidelines of the AGCO can be found here .

Chatham-Kent Council will consider a report at its Monday June 15 meeting to discuss potential extensions of patios to public property (i.e. streets and sidewalks).  That report can be found here .

Chatham-Kent Council considered a report (the report can be found here) at its Monday June 15, 2020 meeting and discussed potential extensions of patios to public property (i.e. streets and sidewalks).  An Expression of Interest process will be followed to gauge interest and will remain open until 4:30 p.m. on June 22, 2020.

The Expression of Interest form can be found in the download section of this page.
