Flag Raising: International Day For the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Mayor Darrin Canniff joined the Chatham-Kent Women's Centre Executive Director, Karen Hunter, members of the Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent and volunteers in raising the flag.

November 25th marks both the "International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women" and first day of the "Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" worldwide.

"One in three women will experience violence in their lifetime. Over the last year in Ontario, femicide rates have increased substantially. Every loss to gender base violence is one too many," says Executive Director, Karen Hunter. "Together we must end gender-based violence."

"It's so important what you, the volunteers, and other service-based groups do. I look forward to the day when your services are no longer needed." says Mayor Canniff.
