Please join us on Thursday, December 16th at 7:30pm in a Facebook Live “Community Presentation on Enumeration”. There will be an opportunity to ask us anything.
On Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 Municipal staff in partnership with volunteers from Hope Haven, CMHA-LK, The Chatham-Kent Women’s Center, Access Open Minds, CK Community Health Centre, Bluewater Methadone Clinic (both locations), Salvation Army, Outreach for Hunger, Praise Fellowship, and St. Andrew’s United Church participated in a ‘point-in-time count of the homeless in the community. In total 171 individuals were identified as being homeless on the night of October 19th. This is a 144% increase from the last enumeration in 2018.
Throughout the pandemic, the Municipality’s Employment & Social Services Division (ESS) along with community partners have worked to make homelessness as brief and rare as possible. With that said, housing is the only way to end homelessness and as rents increase and vacancies decrease throughout the pandemic it is becoming harder and it is taking longer for people to return to housing.
In our Facebook Live presentation, we will share the data collected from our enumeration and give the public a chance to ask us anything.
