Dresden, Ridgetown, Blenheim, Tilbury, Wheatley, Wallaceburg, Chatham

  • Focal points for growth and public and private sector investment in CK
    • This means that the primary urban centres have the highest concentration and intensity uses in the Municipality and will be the focus of residential, commercial, industrial, government, institutional, business/professional office, entertainment, cultural heritage and health/social service activities.
  • Major growth by expansion and Infilling is expected
  • Contain the majority of our residential, commercial, and industrial development
  • Full municipal services to support the infrastructure required for growth
  • Populations greater than 1,500

6 SECONDARY URBAN CENTRES

Mitchell’s Bay, Bothwell, Merlin, Thamesville, Charing Cross, Pain Court

  • Major growth by expansion and Infilling is expected (Population and employment growth is encouraged in the secondary urban centres with full municipal services)
  • Either serviced or planned to be serviced with municipal piped water supply and sanitary sewage services (see Sanitary Sewer Network slide)
  • Compact rural communities of less than 1,000 population comprised of some housing, commercial and industrial businesses as well as public uses

5 HAMLETS 

Erieau, Morpeth, Highgate, Shrewsbury, Cedar Springs

  • Development is limited to infilling rather than expansion (This refers to allowing development on vacant land within the community rather than expanding development outwards from the community boundary.)
  • Populations less than 500
  • Hamlets are serviced by partial municipal services (municipal piped water supply and private sewage disposal)
