Community Development Administration is responsible for the overall leadership, support and direction of a large department, which consists of Economic Development, Planning Services, Building Development Services, Legal Services, and the Provincial Offences Court.

Final Municipal Comprehensive Review

comprehensive review.JPGIn preparation for the next stage of growth and development across Chatham-Kent, Community Development is proceeding with our obligation to perform a Municipal Comprehensive Review.

Watson & Associates Economists Ltd. was retained by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to prepare a Municipal Comprehensive Review in accordance with the requirements of the 2014 Provincial Policy Statement.

A final report was received by Chatham-Kent Council on December 2, 2019. The report includes key background and technical inputs required by the 2014 P.P.S. to inform such recommendations:

  • A long-term population, housing, and employment forecast by Primary Urban Centre, Secondary Urban Centre and rural area
  • A review of opportunities to accommodate residential and non-residential development within the built-up area and designated greenfield areas
  • An assessment of long-term residential, commercial, and employment land needs

Services provided by each division include the following:

Building Development Services

Building Development Services provides enforcement of the Ontario Building Code through plan review, permit issuance, inspections, enforcement, and code interpretation by skilled and provincially certified staff. 

Legal Services

The Legal Services division provides legal services to the Municipal Council, administration, and local boards such as the Public Utilities Commission, Police Services Board, Entegrus and Library Board.

Planning Services

The Chatham-Kent Planning Services Team is a group of individuals that plan, assess and monitor land uses and the land use needs of the community over the course of time. 

Provincial Offences Court

The Provincial Offences Court provides for the administration, prosecution and courtroom to handle charges laid under the Provincial Offences Act.
