Community safety and security is a primary responsibility of the local government. The Municipality of Chatham-Kent achieves this mandate through the Fire and Emergency Services Department expertise in public safety.
Under the direction and guidance of the Fire Paramedic Chief, the department provides fire protection and the ambulance service to the Municipality. Over 65 full time firefighters, 400 volunteer firefighters, and 100 paramedics provide 24-hour coverage to the entire Municipality.
The Fire and Emergency Services Department is also responsible for the maintenance of the municipal emergency response plan, the municipal emergency operations centre and the ongoing public awareness of personal preparedness and the importance of local knowledge regarding emergency management.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that the citizens and visitors to Chatham-Kent are provided with a quality public safety service experience.
