The fund was established by council in 2000 as a grant program which uses matching funding to promote community development projects within the municipality.

Nine groups were approved under the community projects section while 17 were approved under the festivals and events section. The selected projects have gross costs of more than $550,000.

Since its inception in 2000, the CPF program has leveraged $3,392,911 in municipal investment into $14,445,425 worth of community development projects and has encouraged widespread civic engagement and community improvement.

Chatham-Kent Corporate Initiatives Manager Amy Wilcox said the value of the fund is that it gives grassroots community groups a helping hand.

"It's gratifying to be able to help these groups promote projects and events in their areas," she said. "We're a stronger community because of the efforts of these volunteers."
