CKPL Presents Let’s Talk Libraries CK

Libraries are more than a space to house books. They are community hubs where people can find meaningful connections, gain access to information, new perspectives, and community services, and discover an inclusive and compassionate sense of place.

Engaging feedback from the Chatham-Kent Public Library User Survey, “Let's Talk Libraries CK” animates a conversation about the past, present, and future role of the library in CK through two main projects: “Works Cited” and “This Is A Library Podcast”. Using alternative community engagement techniques, including public art and digital media practices, these projects look to imagine the future of CKPL as imagined by patrons, staff, and the greater Chatham-Kent community.

Works Cited

Engaging text-based and public art practices, “Works Cited” collects responses from the CKPL User Survey and turns them into future-focused, brightly coloured quotes that are stuck to the sides of all CKPL branches. This activates the feedback and shows the thoughts and ideas from the community back to itself. Accompanying the installations are a series of poster boards that help identify the project, offer more context for the viewer, and connect folks back to the project website through sharing a URL and QR code.

This Is A Library Podcast

“This Is A Library Podcast” is a digital project with Chatham-Kent Public Library that engages feedback gleaned from the community through the CKPL User Survey as the foundation for curiosities about where libraries have come from, where they are now, and where they can go in the future. These first four episodes of the podcast prioritize the insights and perspectives of CKPL staff, so tune in, listen up, and hear what staff have to say. As music helps us tell our stories, all episodes feature local musicians and have been mindfully produced in collaboration with local sound engineer, Ben Srokosz.

Visit your local library branch and check out your “Works Cited”; download an episode of “This Is A Library Podcast” and tune in to a new perspective; check out the project website at www.ckpl.ca/letstalklibrariesck and choose your own adventure.

We all have stories to tell, and Chatham-Kent Public Library is the place to remember, write, share, and tell those stories. Let’s talk libraries CK, today, tomorrow, and beyond, and imagine a future together.
