Access to cloudLibrary ends December 29

At the end of 2021 CKPL will discontinue offering access to ebooks and audiobooks through the cloudLibrary platform. Access to cloudLibrary will end on December 29, 2021. Our cloudLibrary collection will be migrated to OverDrive, allowing us to retain access to these titles. Starting December 30, 2021 OverDrive and hoopla digital will be CKPL's primary sources for ebooks and audiobooks.

Why is this happening?

We have maintained multiple ebook and audiobook platforms for many years. Offering multiple platforms requires purchasing multiple copies for each service, and libraries pay four times as much for a copy of an ebook as retail customers. Publishers are raising prices and metering licenses, meaning they expire and must be repurchased after a specified number of uses or length of time. We have found the cost to maintain three separate platforms is unsustainable and in the interest of maximizing our collection funding, we have made the decision to migrate to two platforms.
