Landlord Opportunities

Chatham-Kent Housing Services (CKHS) manages a Rent Supplement program in partnership with local private landlords. RGI eligible residents may also qualify for a Housing Allowance that will help make market rents in Chatham-Kent more affordable.

Programs

  • Investment in Affordable Housing- Extension Housing Allowance
  • Rent Supplement (Rent-Geared-To-Income)

How does it work?

Prospective tenants are selected from the social housing waitlist by CKHS. The tenant portion of the rent is based on total household income. CKHS will sign an agreement with the landlord, then the tenant signs a lease upon commencement of the tenancy. The tenant pays the rent-geared-to-income portion of the rent directly to the landlord, while CKHS pays the difference between the tenant portion and the established market rent.

Advantages

Pre-screened tenant referrals will come directly from CKHS, as well as the full rent amount paid during tenant transitions (limitations apply). CKHS supports will be provided for successful tenancy (i.e. Community Relations Workers available for tenant issues management).

With the social housing waitlist on the rise and climbing, there is currently a need for additional rent supplement units. As a landlord, you will be assisting to provide affordable, suitable and adequate housing and meet this need for the residents of Chatham-Kent.
