The 2016 federal budget established a Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF) for immediate improvements to water and wastewater infrastructure. The federal government’s contribution is 50% of the eligible project costs, with the province contributing 25% and the remaining 25% to be met by Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (CK PUC).

In September 2016, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced that under the CWWF program, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is eligible to receive $4,599,375 and $2,299,688 of Federal and Provincial funds respectively. Federal and Provincial funding amounts to $6,899,063. Together with CK PUC contributions of $2,299,688, the total investment in local infrastructure improvements under the CWWF program is $9,198,751.

In October 2016, the Public Utilities Commission approved to proceed with 12 CK PUC projects valued at $9,198,751 eligible to be funded under the CWWF program. The 12 projects are as follows:
