CKPL offers a wide range of materials in alternate formats for customers with visual impairments, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities. As well, CKPL is registered with the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA). For more information, click here.
All CKPL branches offer Chromeboxes for public use. Chromeboxes have accessibility features including text-to-speech, high contrast display mode, and screen magnifier. Large print keyboards and headphones are available at most branches on request.
You can scan a book on the SARA (scanning and reading appliance) and have it read back to you in one of 18 languages. This device is available in Chatham but can be sent to another branch on request.
Municipal Service Desk (MID)
CKPL is the first library system in Ontario to offer Municipal Services at some of its branches. In Bothwell, Highgate, Merlin, Thamesville and Wheatley, staff provide a wide range of services including selling dog tags and accepting payments for property taxes and public utilities.
Adult Literacy Collection
Want to learn or improve your English? The adult literacy collection, on the second floor at the Chatham location, is designed for adults who wish to learn English as a second language or improve their English skills. The collection includes books, CDs, and books on CD. Items can be sent to any branch for pick-up.
Our multilingual collection offers books, DVDs, books on CD and USB in various languages, such as Chinese, Dutch, German, Polish, Russian and Vietnamese. We also have a selection of books in French and Spanish. Ask about Interlibrary Loan services for languages and materials that are not part of our collection.
