French Language Resources

En français, s'il vous plaît!

French books and French language movies are available at most CKPL branches. If you can't find any on the shelf at your local branch, you can place holds to have French materials delivered to any branch for you. CKPL also has French ebooks for children and adults, French language learning resources and more!

At the Library

Check out your books by the bag! Ask staff to put together a French Bag of Books. You'll get 25 children's books including board books, picture books, early readers and easy non-fiction.

Our popular Storykits are also available in French. The French Storykit contains a selection of books for children ages 0 to 6 years, puppets, rhythm instruments, CDs, DVDs, Playaway Views, storytelling props, and concept toys and puzzles. Great for teachers, homeschoolers, daycares and parents!

Forest of Reading

Forest of Reading is a winter reading program that celebrates Canadian authors and illustrators. A list of the nominated titles are available in the library catalogue by searching the category name: "Le Prix Peuplier" and "Le Prix Tamarac".You can also find nominated titles on CKPL’s Pinterest page. Read the books and vote for your favourite!

Learn the Language

	Duolingo is the world's largest online language learning platform and its free! Download the app to your mobile device or learn a language on the computer. Duolingo's adaptive experience has gamified elements to make language learning more fun and effective.
CKPL also carries many language learning resources on multiple formats. Here is a selection:

Online Resources

	Tumble Biblio Enfants is an online collection of animated talking picture books that teach children the joy of reading in a format they will love.
	Cantook Station offers more than 500 French eBooks, with titles available across all categories and for all age groups. View the resource in French by selecting “FR” from the language menu in the top right-hand corner of the screen. To browse French eBooks, either visit the “Catalogue” tab or conduct a search and filter your results for French.

The Santé en français (Consumer Health Information) online database contains French-language articles about common medical conditions and procedures in an easy-to-understand manner. Fournit des rapports faciles à lire avec des renseignements scientifiquement fondés dans le domaine de la santé. Ces rapports couvrant diverses maladies, conditions et traitements sont vérifiés par des médecins et reflètent les données les plus récentes.
